Sports, Swimming & PE

At Trinity Academy, pupils develop their agility, balance and coordination to play games, swim, dance and perform gymnastic and athletic skills. They experience a diverse range of sporting activities taught by both teachers and coaches, but are also given the opportunity to take part in clubs after school where they can further develop their passion for physical exercise and sport.

Pupils understand the importance of exercise to their health and their well-being. They develop their leadership skills and are able to work as part of a team. Pupils experience the thrill of taking part in physical competition during lessons, sports days and festivals. They also experience the challenge of outdoor and adventurous activities at school and on residential trip in Year 6.

Our KS2 children enjoy a term of cricket taught by Wiltshire cricket coaches, developing and applying their skills ready to take part in cricket festivals and competitions. In addition to this, Years 4-6 enjoy termly swimming lessons. We welcome coaches from PH Sports on Monday lunchtime and they coach three after school clubs each week, which enables all year groups to participate in a variety of sports. We also take the opportunity to participate in many sports festivals and competitions throughout the year, such as dance, cricket, dodgeball, netball, all of which enrich our PE and school sport on offer.

Swimming

Children in Years 4-6 enjoy swimming lessons throughout the year at Devizes Leisure Centre, with each class participating in 3 half-terms of weekly lessons. Swimming is a statutory part of the national curriculum and lessons are taught by teachers and teaching assistants who are all trained swim coaches, who assess the children at the start and end of the swimming course.
